A 57-year-old man was arrested last night in Igoumenitsa by officers of the Coast Guard.
The competent authorities conducted an inspection of a refrigerated truck with a semi-trailer, which had been unloaded from a ship arriving from Italy.
During the inspection, following an alert from the Coast Guard’s drug-sniffing dog, officers located the following inside the refrigerated trailer, hidden among the load of tiles it was transporting:
a) 34 cardboard boxes containing 292 vacuum-sealed plastic bags of unprocessed hydroponic cannabis (SKUNK), with a total gross weight of 317.350 kilograms,
b) 14 plastic packages containing cocaine with a total gross weight of 16.810 kilograms,
c) 2 plastic bags containing crystal methamphetamine (ICE) with a total gross weight of 25.240 kilograms,
d) 4 plastic containers, each holding 20 liters of acetone, used for dissolving narcotics, and
e) A cocaine press mold.
The value of the seized drugs is estimated to exceed 3,000,000 euros. All the aforementioned items, along with a mobile phone and the truck with its semi-trailer, were confiscated by the Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, which is conducting the preliminary investigation.
