Igoumenitsa: Drugs worth 3 million euros found in a truck at the port

A 57-year-old man was arrested last night in Igoumenitsa by officers of the Coast Guard.

The competent authorities conducted an inspection of a refrigerated truck with a semi-trailer, which had been unloaded from a ship arriving from Italy.

During the inspection, following an alert from the Coast Guard’s drug-sniffing dog, officers located the following inside the refrigerated trailer, hidden among the load of tiles it was transporting:

a) 34 cardboard boxes containing 292 vacuum-sealed plastic bags of unprocessed hydroponic cannabis (SKUNK), with a total gross weight of 317.350 kilograms,

b) 14 plastic packages containing cocaine with a total gross weight of 16.810 kilograms,

c) 2 plastic bags containing crystal methamphetamine (ICE) with a total gross weight of 25.240 kilograms,

d) 4 plastic containers, each holding 20 liters of acetone, used for dissolving narcotics, and

e) A cocaine press mold.

The value of the seized drugs is estimated to exceed 3,000,000 euros. All the aforementioned items, along with a mobile phone and the truck with its semi-trailer, were confiscated by the Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa, which is conducting the preliminary investigation.
