Two arrested in Piraeus for facilitating cocaine smuggling in banana shipment

Two employees of Piraeus Containers Terminal SA have been arrested for allegedly facilitating the export of a large quantity of drugs hidden in a banana shipment at the Port of Piraeus, authorities reported.

The arrests of the two Greek nationals, aged 47 and 27, were made by the Hellenic Coast Guard's Drugs & Contraband Enforcement Directorate and the Regional Narcotics Enforcement Team of the Piraeus Central Port Authority, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office. The investigation, which involved extensive data analysis and intelligence gathering, also included cooperation with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Piraeus Customs Office.
