Police officer arrested after assault at Christmas event in Chalandri

A police officer was arrested for attacking and threatening citizens at a Christmas event in a public square in the northern Athens suburb of Chalandri, as reported by mayor Simos Roussos.

According to reports, the officer, dressed in civilian clothes, assaulted the deputy mayor of civil protection, who filed a complaint and also confronted a volunteer who participated in the event. The municipality of Chalandri has joined as a civil party in the case.

The officer, who serves at the Chalandri police station, was arrested and is currently in custody. The station commander is said to have informed the mayor that the officer has caused issues in the past, that his weapon has been confiscated, and that he had also exhibited inappropriate behavior toward his fellow officers.
