Lesvos: Coast guard officer slightly injured in migrant boat incident
A coast guard officer suffered a minor head injury when a speedboat carrying 30 migrants rammed a coast guard vessel off the southeastern coast of the island.
The coast guard vessel, which was on a scheduled patrol, spotted a speedboat offloading migrants along the coast at Agrilia, in southeastern Lesvos.
When the speedboat failed to heed light and sound signals to stop, the coast guard vessel began to pursue it, during which the speedboat performed dangerous maneuvers and attempted to ram the Greek vessel.
The officer was injured when the speedboat hit the patrol boat on the side.
The two Turkish drivers of the speedboat, aged 31 and 25, were arrested and the injured officer was taken to Mytilene hospital.
