Severe weather expected across Greece this weekend

The National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an updated weather warning on Friday, forecasting a new wave of severe weather starting Saturday.

While rainfall and snowfall are expected to ease in most areas on Friday, conditions will worsen across eastern Greece by Saturday.

In particular, the southern island of Crete will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, with snow in the mountainous regions. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will see heavy snowfall in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, starting in the early evening, with snow levels dropping to lower altitudes during the night.

Strong northeasterly winds will also cause concern in the Aegean Sea, eastern and southern Evia, eastern Attica, and parts of the eastern Peloponnese. Winds are expected to reach 8 to 9 Beaufort, gradually decreasing to 8 Beaufort by the afternoon.
