Bitter Watermellon | Athens | To January 19
The 2510 Theater (52 Themistokleous) presents Andreas Zafeiris' play "Bitter Watermellon," running for 12 performances every Saturday and Sunday until January 19. What begins as a love story soon transforms into a political thriller, drawing inspiration from recent events in Palestine and Lebanon. The watermelon is a symbol of Palestine, but because it has the colors of its flag, the fruit is used as an allusion to it where it is prohibited. "Watermellon," with two Ls, is not a spelling error - it is an indirect reference to the bitter future ("mellon" in Greek) of man who will not confront historical necessity, namely freedom. The play invites audiences to confront questions about choice and the complex realities of our time. Tickets cost 12 euros. Bookings and inquiries can be made at 6906.994.725, 6976.753.141 and 6955.445.130.
