Suspected migrant smuggler to appear before prosecutor

A man arrested on Sunday morning on suspicion of migrant smuggling in the northeastern Evros region is expected to be led before a prosecutor.

Police arrested the man, a non-national, after a car chase.

The suspect, who was transporting five migrants into the country, failed to stop at a police checkpoint on the Ardani-Ormenio road and continued on his way, speeding and driving dangerously.

He later abandoned his vehicle on the Alexandroupoli-Kipoi road and fled on foot, but was later apprehended by police and arrested.

His vehicle and a mobile phone were seized.
