Civil servants take to streets to protest mobility scheme

The civil servant’s union, ADEDY, is planning a series of protests in several Greek cities on Monday to protest the public sector mobility scheme.

The main demonstration will be at 3 p.m. outside the Finance Ministry in Athens, where some 400 sacked cleaners have been protesting for several weeks.

European Commission Approves Liquidity Support Scheme for BG Banks

The European Commission approved a liquidity support scheme for Bulgarian banks to the tune of BGN 3.3 B, said the Commission in a press statement.

On Sunday (June 29), Bulgaria asked the Commission to authorise the provision of a credit line of  BGN 3.3 B to the banking system in order to respond to speculative attacks that occurred over the past week. 

Kosovo Arrests 18 Over Mitrovica Barricade Unrest

Police said that those arrested are suspected hooliganism, attacking officials, theft and illegal possession of weapons.

The arrests followed violent incidents on June 22 when Kosovo Albanians, angered by new barricades erected by Serbs on the main bridge in Mitrovica, clashed with police.

Romanian Opposition Party Elects New Leader

The National Liberal Party, PNL, Romania’s biggest opposition party, elected Klaus Iohannis as its new president on Saturday.

Iohannis, 55, an ethnic German and popular mayor of Transylvanian city of Sibiu, has replaced former parliament speaker Crin Antonescu, and has promised to revive the party’s popularity.

According to the report published on Friday by the Council of Europe’s Group of States Against Corruption, the Albanian judiciary is weaker than other branches of government.

ANDRIĆGRAD -- Milorad Dodik says the Serb people in Bosnia will continue fighting for autonomy, hoping that the political process will eventually result in the independence.

He made the remarks on Saturday, St. Vitus Day (Vidovdan), during the opening of the cultural and historical complex dubbed Andrićgrad.

This is according to European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, who spoke in Belgrade on Sunday.

Russian news cameraman killed in eastern Ukraine

A Russian television cameraman was killed overnight in shooting in east Ukraine which Moscow said undermined faith in Kiev's desire to resolve weeks of conflict peacefully.
   
Anatoly Klyan, 68, worked for state-owned Channel One and was the third Russian journalist killed since pro-Russian separatists began an uprising against central rule in April.
   

Israeli leader calls for independent Kurdistan

Seizing on the mayhem in Iraq, Israel's prime minister on June 29 called for the establishment of an independent Kurdistan as part of a broader alliance with moderate forces across the region, and asserted that Israel would have to maintain a long-term military presence in the West Bank to keep a jihadi juggernaut from powering its way to the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
