Serbian, Chinese, Hungarian railways sign memorandum

BELGRADE - The railway companies Zeleznice Srbije, Chinese Railway Corporation and Coroporation of Hungarian State Railways have signed a memorandum of understanding concerning a feasibility study for the Belgrade-Budapest railroad project, Zeleznice Srbije said on Sunday.

Head of Zeleznice Srbije Miroslav Stojcic signed the agreement for the company.

Main opposition party slams new security bill

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has lodged a statement of opposition to the 15 articles of the new homeland security bill, saying that the penalty given for brandishing a sling is higher than the penalty of gun possession.

Blast near Shiite shrine in Damascus kills six

A rare explosion in central Damascus targeted a bus believed to be carrying Lebanese Shiite Muslim pilgrims on Jan. 31, killing at least six people and wounding more than 20, a Reuters witness and local media said. 
A social media account linked to al Qaeda's Nusra Front said the hardline Sunni group was behind the attack on the bus near a market place in the capital. 

Freed reporter Greste to fight for colleagues still in Cairo jail

Australian journalist Peter Greste will keep fighting to free his colleagues still jailed in Egypt, his family said Monday, after he was released following more than 400 days in prison on charges of backing the Muslim Brotherhood.

Death toll mounts after peace talks fail in Kyiv

Thirteen Ukrainian soldiers and at least seven civilians have been killed in fighting in the past 24 hours, Kyiv authorities said on Jan. 31, reporting widespread clashes with Russian-backed separatists a day after peace talks collapsed. 

"Fighting continues across all sections of the frontline," Kyiv military spokesman Volodymyr Polyovy said in a briefing. 

Sudan rebels free Bulgarian aid workers: Ministry

Six Bulgarian U.N. aid workers who were detained by rebels in Sudan's strife-torn South Kordofan region have been released, the Bulgarian foreign ministry said on Jan. 31.

"They are in good health and are in a safe place with a team of the United Nations (World) Food Program," foreign ministry spokeswoman Betina Zhoteva said.
