Kubrat Pulev Triumphs over Simon Peter, Grabbing WBA Boxing Belt

Bulgarian heavyweight boxer Kubrat Pulev has secured an overwhelming victory on Samuel Peter at a game in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

Through the win, Pulev has gained the World Boxing Champion (WBA) title.

The success has also made him a claimant for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title now held by Anthony Joushua (UK) since April.

Amvrosios to Tsipras: “Your comparison of Greek War of Independence to a Cuban civil war is a national crime and disgrace!”

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Kalavrita and Aegialias Anmvrosios penned an open letter to prime minister Alexis Tsipras on Thursday, condemning him for comparing the Greek Revolution of 1821 with the Cuban civil war of 1959, which he called a national crime and disgrace, and criticizing the extravagance of the premier’s “unnecessary” trip to Cuba in his post script.

 

Syria army retakes over half of rebel east Aleppo

Syria's army advanced overnight deeper into east Aleppo where it now controls more than half of the former rebel stronghold after a fierce assault that has sparked an international outcry.

Tens of thousands of civilians have fled eastern neighborhoods of the battered city since Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime began its latest offensive in mid-November.

Seamen's union calls new strikes

The umbrella union of Greek seamen, PNO, on Saturday announced a new round of strike action that means ferries will be tied up until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

According to reports, the escalation of action came in the wake of concerns over planned changes to a special tax regime applying to those employed in the sector.

Lawyer arrested for forging 1.1 million euro will

A 53-year-old lawyer and a 48-year-old female accomplice stand accused of forging a will whose value exceeded 1.1 million euros, authorities said.

According to investigators, the scam involved real estate assets and bank deposits left behind by an elderly man who had no known relatives and had died alone in his Athens home at the start of the year.

CHP's Kılıçdaroğlu vows to look after democratic parliamentary system

Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has vowed Dec. 3 to look after the democratic parliamentary system, in a party rally held in the southern Adana province against changing the state's administrative system into a presidential system.
