Head of Bulgaria’s Anti-corruption Commission Resigns

The head of Bulgaria's anti-corruption commission, Plamen Georgiev, resigned. This was announced by the Speaker of Parliament, Tsveta Karayancheva, on July 31. For the time being, there is no information about the motives.

Georgiev on April 4 took leave following the start of a check ordered by the chief prosecutor into property acquisitions by top officials, including him.

Bags of cannabis found near Ioannina

Police in northwestern Greece on Wednesday seized 95 kilograms of cannabis after finding the drugs in abandoned rucksacks in the area of Negades, near Ioannina.
The three rucksacks contained 95 packages of the drugs.
The local police narcotics unit is investigating the incident. 

Renovation workers stumble across WWII grenade

Experts from the Greek Police's bomb disposal unit removed a hand grenade that was found in the downtown Athens district of Exarchia on Wednesday.
The grenade, which is believed to date to World War II, was found in a building on Asclepiou Street that has been under renovation.
