Piraeus Bank sees 2019 profits grow

Piraeus Bank grew full-year 2019 net profit, helped by lower operating costs and higher net interest income, Greece's largest lender by assets said on Monday.
Piraeus Bank, which is 26.2 percent owned by the country's HFSF bank rescue fund, reported a net profit of 270 million euros after net earnings of 185 million in 2018.

COVID-19 death toll reaches 72 in Romania

Three more people infected with the new coronavirus have died in Romania, the total number of those who have died so far due to this cause reaching 72, informs the Strategic Communication Group on Tuesday. It's about two women - one of 60 years old from Ialomita and another 53 years old from Hunedoara County - and a 65 year old man from Hunedoara.

Suspension of asylum claims not extended

Greece will not extend its suspension of asylum applications, the government said Monday, vowing however to tighten up security at the borders.

The country announced a one-month block on new claims on March 1 after Turkey "opened the doors" for migrants to travel to the European Union.
