Turkey borrows over $2.6B from domestic markets

The Turkish Treasury borrowed 18.5 billion Turkish liras ($2.6 billion) from domestic markets through an auction and lease certificates issuance on April 28. 

Some 3.38 billion Turkish liras ($483 million) in two-year fixed coupon bonds (semiannually, re-opened, seventh issue) were up for auction that will be settled on Wednesday and mature on Oct. 20, 2021.

Turkish Airlines suspends all flights until May 28

Turkish Airlines will not operate any domestic or international flights until May 28, the company announced on April 28.  

Turkey's national flag carrier said the decision to extend the suspension of operations has been taken in the public interest.

Khashoggi fiancé: stop Saudi takeover of Newcastle Utd

Slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi's fiancé Hatice Cengiz has asked the Premier League to stop the takeover of Newcastle United Football Club by the Saudi Arabian sovereign fund. 

Her lawyer, Rodney Dixon, sent a letter to the League in Cengiz's name asking to stop a Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund-led consortium from buying Newcastle Utd.

Top Turkish diplomat attends teleconference on COVID-19

Turkish foreign minister on April 28 attended the 7th teleconference of the International Coordination Group on the coronavirus.

In a Twitter post, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said cooperation and coordination in multilateral organizations in the fight against coronavirus as well as support for vulnerable countries against the pandemic were discussed at the meeting.

Turkey repatriates 390 more nationals amid coronavirus

Turkey brought back 390 more Turkish nationals from African and Balkan countries on April 28 as part of ongoing
repatriation efforts for Ramadan amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 119 nationals from Kenya and 153 from Tanzania arrived at Samsun Airport in northwestern Turkey.

Turkey ranks third worldwide in supplying medical aid

Turkey is the third biggest supplier of medical aid worldwide amid the coronavirus outbreak, Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu said on April 28.  

The country also provides the largest amount of humanitarian aid in the world, he said.
