Trump: Former adviser Bolton faces charges if book released

President Donald Trump said on June 15 that his former national security adviser, John Bolton, could face a "criminal problem" if he doesn't halt plans to publish a new book that describes scattershot, sometimes dangerous, decision-making by a president focused only on getting re-elected.

Trabzonspor beats Fenerbahçe, reaches Turkish Cup final

Trabzonspor beats Fenerbahçe 3-1 in the Ziraat Turkish Cup semifinal match on June 16 to advance to final. 

Trabzonspor secured the 5-2 aggregate victory, having won the first leg 2-1 at home in March.

Ottoman sultan's portrait to be sold in London

A portrait of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, known as Fatih Sultan Mehmet in Turkish, will be put up for auction in London on June 25. 

Thought to be drawn by Italian painter Gentile Bellini in 1480, it is expected to fetch $500,000-$740,000 and will be sold at the world-famous Christie's auction house.

Cyprus Defense Minister stresses need for EU naval presence in East Med

Cyprus Defense Minister Savvas Angelides briefed his EU counterparts on Tuesday on Turkey's ongoing activities in the Republic of Cyprus' exclusive economic zone (EEZ), stressing the need for an EU naval presence in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Turkish, Japanese students meet in online seminar

Turkish and Japanese students spoke about cultural values during an online seminar held on June 16.   

Japanese Ambassador Akio Miyajima also attended the seminar, which was promoted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Turkish-Japanese Foundation.

EU appoints new ambassador to Turkey

Senior German diplomat Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut was nominated as head of EU delegation to Turkey, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell announced on June 16 in a statement.

Meyer-Landrut has been Germany's ambassador to France and Monaco since 2015.

He will replace Christian Berger, who continues his career as EU ambassador to Egypt.
