League race heats up as leader Başakşehir hosts Galatasaray

The title race in the Turkish Süper Lig will continue this weekend with league leader Başakşehir hosting defending champion Galatasaray on June 28 and Trabzonspor playing Ankaragücü at home on June 27.

Turkish Central Bank reserves reach $90.9 bln in May

The Turkish Central Bank on June 26 announced its official reserves totaled $90.9 billion as of the end of May.

Total reserve assets soared 5.3% this May, versus $86.3 billion in April, the bank's international reserves and foreign currency liquidity report showed.

5.5-magnitude earthquake hits western Turkey

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Turkey's western province of Manisa on June 26, according to the country's disaster management agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said the quake struck near the Saruhanli district at 10.21 a.m. local time (0721GMT). It originated at a depth of 9.2 kilometers (30,183 feet).

A bright and large flash of light was seen in the night sky over Tehran early on June 26 in images shared widely on social media, Iran's Fars news agency reported.

Two football players from the Beşiktaş team in the Turkish Süper Lig have tested positive for COVID-19, the club announced on June 25. 

"All players, technical staff and club employees were tested for the virus at the BJK Nevzat Demir training facility on 24 June, Wednesday. Two footballers tested positive for COVID-19, according to the results,'' according to the Istanbul club.
