Toyota profit down as chips shortage keeps customers waiting
Toyota's profit fell nearly 18 percent in the April-June quarter from the year before, as a semiconductor shortage that has slammed the auto industry dented production at Japan's top automaker.
Toyota Motor Corp. reported yesterday a quarterly profit of 736.8 billion yen ($5.5 billion), down from 897.8 billion yen the previous year.
Trade deficit widens to $10.6 billion in July
Türkiye increased its exports by 13.4 percent on an annual basis to $18.6 billion in July, preliminary data from the Trade Ministry showed on Aug. 3.
Imports grew nearly 41 percent to $29.1 billion. Consequently, the country's foreign trade deficit widened by 145 percent year-on-year last month to $10.6 billion.
Inflation will start to fall in December, says Nebati
The increase in consumer prices will be lower in August, and inflation will start to ease in December, Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati has said.
"We have not compromised on economic growth. That is why the fight against inflation is taking some time," Nebati said in a televised interview on Aug. 3.
Turkish ultramarathon swimmer earns second triple crown
Vural Tandoğan, a 57-year-old swimmer who swam across the English Channel, the Catalina Channel and Manhattan Island leg and earned the triple crown of ocean swimming in the past, has been honored with another triple crown after completing a series of three different swims in Lake Tahoe, located in the U.S.
‘Some 90 pct of burned forest areas recovered’
The rehabilitation works of some 90 percent of the 139,500 hectares of land damaged in forest fires last year have been completed, the head of the General Directorate of Forestry has said.
Noting that the rehabilitation works will be completed by the end of the year, Bekir Karacabey said, "The methods to rehabilitate these lands were determined under the guidance of technical teams."
