Police remand 9 in fear of violent Golden Dawn anniversary riots

Nine individuals were taken into police custody on Wednesday at Neo Iraklio, Attica as a precaution against violent riots given the 10th anniversary of the murder of two members of the far-right party Golden Dawn. 

Despite a ban on gatherings that is in force until 6 a.m. on Thursday, a large number of people have gathered in the areas of Neo Iraklio and Nea Ionia. 

Djokovic beats Etcheverry to advance to Paris Masters third round

PARIS  - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis singles, is through to the Paris Masters third round after a 6-3, 6-2 win over world number 31 Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina on Wednesday evening.

Djokovic, who won after an hour and 25 minutes of play, is now 2-0 head-to-head against Etcheverry.

Gouillon urges French businesses to invest in Serbia

Woman dies in Thessaloniki traffic accident

In a deadly traffic accident in Thessaloniki on Wednesday afternoon, a city bus crossed to the opposite traffic lane sweeping away a motorbike, a taxi and another car. The woman driving the motorbike has died.

The bus driver as well as the drivers of the other two vehicles have been injured and transferred to the hospital.

Swiss climbers rescued from gorge in central Greece

A Swiss couple was rescued by the Fire Brigade early on Wednesday after it got trapped at Geropotamos Gorge of Mount Oeta, west of Thermopylae, where they spent the night.
