Turkey takes umbrage at Greek sea park projects

Greece's marine park projects in the Aegean and Ionian seas have miffed Turkey, which views them as an underhanded attempt to extend Greek sovereignty over what it calls "gray zones."

Preliminary European election results expected by 9 p.m. Sunday

A preliminary estimate of the European Parliament election results is expected around 9 p.m. on Sunday, two hours after the ballots close, Interior Ministry Secretary-General Nasos Balerbas told Antenna TV on Monday.

He added that information on whether minor parties surpass the 3 percent threshold, allowing them to elect an MEP, will be available later in the day.

Tourist visits in Serbia up by 7.1 pct y-o-y in April

BELGRADE - Serbia registered 7.1 pct more tourist visits in April 2024 relative to the same month of last year and the number of overnight stays was up by 9.1 pct y-o-y, according to figures released by the national statistical office.

The number of tourist visits was 370,669 and overnight stays totalled 1,025,142.

More than half of Gaza structures destroyed or damaged: UN

Some 55 percent of all structures in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed, damaged or possibly damaged since war erupted in the Palestinian territory eight months ago, according to preliminary satellite analysis by the U.N.

The analysis showed more than 137,000 buildings affected, UNOSAT, the United Nations satellite analysis agency, said on X, formerly Twitter.

Athens backs Biden’s Gaza ceasefire proposal

Greece has expressed its support for a framework deal advanced by US President Joe Biden to end the fighting in Gaza.

"Greece fully supports @POTUS Biden roadmap for a ceasefire, release of all hostages, unhindered humanitarian access, withdrawal of IDF, and Gaza reconstruction," the Foreign Ministry said in a post on X social media platform on Monday.

Exports surge 11.4 percent to $20 billion in May

Türkiye's exports increased by 11.4 percent in May from a year earlier to $24.07 billion, according to data from the Trade Ministry.

Imports plunged more than 10 percent annually to $30.6 billion, leading to a foreign trade deficit of $6.5 billion, down 47.8 percent from May last year.

This marked a record high May figure, said Trade Minister Ömer Bolat.

Former GD leader re-arrested after court reverses release decision

Nikos Michaloliakos, the former leader of the now-defunct Golden Dawn, was arrested at his home in the northern Athens suburb of Pefki, hours after a court reversed a prior decision granting him release under restrictive conditions on Monday.

The 67-year-old is expected to return to Domokos Prison, just a month after his temporary release.

Serbian state and business delegation to visit Japan

BELGRADE - Serbia's Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirovic will be heading a Serbian state and business delegation on a June 4-6 official working visit to Japan.
