Flybe ceases trading, cancels all flights

British airline Flybe said on Jan. 28 it had ceased trading and all flights had been canceled.
"We are sad to announce that Flybe has been placed into administration," the airline tweeted.
"Flybe has now ceased trading. All Flybe flights from & to the U.K. are canceled & will not be rescheduled," it said.

Istanbul Airport busiest in Europe in third quarter
Istanbul was the busiest European airport and the only major European hub whose passenger volumes exceeded pre-pandemic levels in the third quarter of 2022, according to the Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe).
Its passenger traffic increased by 3 percent from the third quarter of 2019 and rose nearly 56.1 percent when compared to the third quarter of 2021.

The property boom is coming to an end, according to a study by Swiss bank UBS, with Frankfurt and Toronto topping the list of imbalanced markets.
The bank's annual study of the world property market looked at prices in 25 major cities across the globe.

Jean Paul Gaultier sued by Uffizi in Botticelli bottoms row
The Uffizi museum in Florence said on Oct. 10 it was suing French fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier for "unauthorized use" of Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus," its Italian Renaissance masterpiece.
Painted by Sandro Botticelli in the mid-1480s, it shows the nude goddess Venus standing on a giant scallop shell, covering her loins with her long blonde hair.
Hidden items found in Vermeer’s famed ‘Milkmaid’ painting
Experts have found a hidden jug holder and basket in Dutch master Johannes Vermeer's famed painting "The Milkmaid" which he later painted over, Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum said on Sept. 8.
The discoveries in the work painted some 350 years ago shed new light on the technique of the enigmatic artist, ahead of the largest ever exhibition of Vermeer's work starting at the museum in 2023.
Istanbul Airport ranked busiest in Europe
Istanbul Airport has been ranked as the busiest airport in Europe with 1,310 flights between Aug. 24 and 30, according to data from EUROCONTROL.
According to the weekly report, which also compares the flight performances before the pandemic, many airports in Europe lagged far behind 2019 figures, while Istanbul Airport increased its flights by 2 percent.

Hadraawi, ‘Shakespeare of Somalia,’ dies aged 79
Award-winning Somali poet Mohamed Ibrahim Warsame, better-known by his pen name Hadraawi, died on Aug. 18 aged 79, prompting a flood of tributes to the "Shakespeare of Somalia."
Hadraawi died in a hospital in Hargeisa, the capital of the breakaway region of Somaliland, after battling ill health for the past seven years.
