German team switches hotel in Turkey to avoid Russian models

It seems that sharing a hotel with 400 Russian models isn't every sportsman's idea of a good time.

German third-division football team Duisburg says it has changed the hotel booking for its winter training camp in Turkey next week after learning that the hotel it had reserved is hosting a pageant of Russian models, the Associated Press reported.

A report drafted by a civil rights organization has drawn a picture of the plight of transgender individuals in Turkey, finding that half of all transgender women sex workers in the country have been subjected to physical violence from police. It also states that the murder of transgender individuals in Turkey amounts to 40 percent of the total number of such killings in all of Europe.

65 percent of Turkey’s tourism facilities need to be renewed

Some 65 percent of tourism facilities on Turkey’s coasts need to be renovated to compete with other facilities around the Mediterranean, even though nearly half of Turkey’s hotels are less than 10 years old, according to a recent report by the Touristic Hoteliers Association of the Mediterranean (AKTOB).

Two killed in Turkish laundry facility explosion

An explosion occurred at a large laundry facility on an industrial site in the southern Turkish province of Antalya on the morning of Nov. 19.
     
Ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene. Ahmet Kısa, the president of the provincial fire department, has said the explosion left two people dead and wounded at least 13 others, with three in serious condition.

Turkey in spotlight as ‘world’s largest museum’

A new project titled “The World’s Largest Museum: Turkey,” which includes a book, photography exhibition and a documentary film, was launched over the weekend at the Istanbul Archaeology Museums.

The project was initiated jointly by the Culture and Tourism Ministry, the Turkish Travel Agencies Union (TÜRSAB) Museums Initiatives, and the Bilkent Cultural Initiatives.
