Police seize hazardous Covid supplies in Athens warehouse raids
Police have seized thousands of Covid-19 self-test kits and millions of medical masks deemed hazardous to public health during raids on warehouses in Athens, as shown in a video released on Friday. Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case, according to police.

Hard lockdown extended for Elefsina, Aspropyrgos
Authorities have extended a hard lockdown on the western Athens municipalities of Elefsina and Aspropyrgos until Wednesday, January 6, at 6 a.m., Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias told a press briefing on Tuesday, due to their heavy epidemiological burden.

String of regional lockdowns feared
Just a few days after the partial easing of restrictive measures to contain coronavirus cases, the pandemic has surged again in Western Attica, prompting immediate emergency action, with Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias announcing a ban on movement from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Four arrested in connection with killing of truck driver in Aspropyrgos
Four men were arrested and one is wanted by police in connection to the killing of a truck driver near the town of Aspropyrgos, in western Attica, on April 8.
Two of suspects, who are all Greek nationals, are underage. Police believe the motive of the crime was robbery.
Truck driver found dead in Aspropyrgos
A truck driver was found dead on Thursday morning inside a vehicle parked in a highway parking near the town of Aspropyrgos, in western Attica, the state-run news agency ANA said.
Police sources cited by the news agency said the victim had a chest injury and authorities are examining all possibilities regarding his death.

Four arrested in Attica in contraband smokes raid
Police on Thursday arrested four people in Attica believed to be involved in the sale of 20,600 packets of contraband cigarettes.
A foreign national, 73, and three Greek nationals, 50, 56 and 59, were arrested in coordinated sweeps by Elefsina's port authorities in the Attica municipalities of Moschato and Aspropyrgos.

Athens landfill to be expanded, again
The capital's main landfill at Fyli, northwestern Attica, is heading for a third enlargement to deal with overflowing waste, as the construction of new facilities to alleviate the problem are reportedly not expected to be ready before 2021-22.

Crooked ex-cop ran tobacco smuggling gang
A tobacco smuggling gang that was disbanded on Saturday was led by a retired policeman, according to a spokesman for the Greek Police (ELAS) on Monday.
The former officer, 56, and two other men, 47 and 60, were arrested in coordinated police sweeps in the Attica municipalities of Avlona, Koropi and Aspropyrgos.

Alleged nursery beatings in Aspropyrgos probed
The Athens prosecutor's office has ordered an investigation into reports of child abuse at a nursery in Aspropyrgos, western Attica.
According to the claim of one of the mothers who spoke to Skai TV, children would return from the 2nd Nursery of Aspropyrgos with bruises, but were unable to react because they were only 2 years old.
