Vintage biplanes attempt Greece-South Africa imperial route

Twelve vintage biplanes from the 1920s and 1930s set off from the Greek island of Crete on Saturday bound for South Africa for a 12,800-kilometre (8,000-mile) race never attempted before by so many antique aircraft.

The planes are following the route plied by Imperial Airways, a British commercial air transport company that linked Britain's colonies in Africa.

Welcome to the Anthropocene

Geology moves very slowly, and so do geologists. The Working Group on the Anthropocene was set up in 2009, but only presented its recommendation to the International Geological Congress in Cape Town last Monday. The Working Group's experts have concluded that we are now living in a new geological epoch: the Anthropocene. That is, the epoch when human beings are reshaping the Earth.

Turkish hoteliers accelerate promotional activities in new markets

Turkish hoteliers have sped up promotional activities in new markets in a bid to recover their expected losses in key markets, mainly European and Russian markets. 

The Hotel Association of Turkey (TÜROB) said the association recently attended tourism fairs to diversify their markets in places like Latin America, South Africa and Azerbaijan, in a written statement on April 18.

The animals roaming over a wide plain encased by jagged mountain ranges look like quaggas, a subspecies of the plains zebra -- but quaggas are extinct.

Algarve in Portugal is the cheapest place for British tourists willing to travel without leaving Europe, followed by Bulgaria's Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach, a new report suggests.

Bulgaria is followed by Cape Town in South Africa, which is the best bargain for those opting for a long-haul trip.

Opposition reads out motion at plenary session of Parliament

Senator Viorel Badea of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) on Friday read out the Opposition's motion of censure against Prime Minister Victor Ponta called 'Victor Ponta - dismissed for excessive power by blocking elections. The right to vote is not sloganeering!'

In their motion, the Liberals call for a withdrawal of confidence in the Government.
