Greeks killed in Libya honored posthumously

In an emotionally charged ceremony at the Presidential Mansion on Friday, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou (r) awarded, posthumously, the Grand Cross of the Order of the Phoenix to siblings Angela Moira Mandalios and Philip Mandalios, volunteer interpreters who lost their lives during a Greek humanitarian mission in Libya, on September 17, 2023.

37 People have been Sentenced to Death for Terrorism in Egypt

An Egyptian court has sentenced 37 people to death convicted of terrorism today, Reuters reported.

One of them is a former officer of the Egyptian security force named Hisham al-Ashmawy, who was captured in the Libyan city of Derna at the end of 2018. He was transferred last May to Egyptian authorities by Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar.

Egypt hits ‘jihadist camps’ after attack on Coptic Christians

Egyptian forces have struck “terrorist training camps” in retaliation for an attack on Coptic Christians, President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi says.

State media say the strikes hit the town of Derna in neighbouring Libya.

Gunmen earlier attacked a bus carrying worshippers in central Egypt, killing at least 28 people and wounding 25 others, officials say.

Turkish owned ship was en route to Tobruk with declared cargo: spokesperson

A Turkish cargo ship, which was attacked by the Libyan military off the Libya coast on May 10, was en route to the port in Tobruk with proven documents and carrying declared cargo, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tanju Bilgiç has said, dismissing allegations that the vessel had been carrying weapons and approaching the city of Derna in Libya. 

Egypt's Sisi urges UN resolution for military intervention in Libya

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Feb. 17 urged the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution allowing for an international military intervention in troubled Libya.
      
"There is no other choice. Taking into account that the Libyan people must agree that we act to restore security and stability," Sisi said in an interview with French radio Europe 1.
