An Egyptian court has sentenced 37 people to death convicted of terrorism today, Reuters reported.

One of them is a former officer of the Egyptian security force named Hisham al-Ashmawy, who was captured in the Libyan city of Derna at the end of 2018. He was transferred last May to Egyptian authorities by Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar.

Egyptian forces have struck “terrorist training camps” in retaliation for an attack on Coptic Christians, President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi says.

State media say the strikes hit the town of Derna in neighbouring Libya.

Gunmen earlier attacked a bus carrying worshippers in central Egypt, killing at least 28 people and wounding 25 others, officials say.

A Turkish cargo ship, which was attacked by the Libyan military off the Libya coast on May 10, was en route to the port in Tobruk with proven documents and carrying declared cargo, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tanju Bilgiç has said, dismissing allegations that the vessel had been carrying weapons and approaching the city of Derna in Libya. 

The second captain of a Turkish cargo ship, which was attacked off Libya on May 10, has said Libyan authorities had only "warned us with a bomb" during the attack.

Turkey has called for a speedy political settlement to the Libyan problem a day after a Turkish cargo ship, "Tuna-1," was shelled off the Libyan coast and attacked from the air, killing one and wounding several others.

The Emir of Qatar said on Feb. 26 he was committed to "stability" in Egypt, despite a recent row between the two nations over Cairo's airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants in Libya.
      

Egypt is forcing Libyan airliners flying between Turkey and Jordan and the capital Tripoli to stop in eastern Libya to allow the country's internationally recognized government to screen out potential Islamist fighters, officials said.
   

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Feb. 17 urged the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution allowing for an international military intervention in troubled Libya.
      
"There is no other choice. Taking into account that the Libyan people must agree that we act to restore security and stability," Sisi said in an interview with French radio Europe 1.
