Former mayor found guilty of breach of trust over €4 mln deficit released pending appeal
A former mayor and an official accused of breach of trust in relation to a 4-million euro deficit in his municipality's coffers has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment but released pending appeal.
The deficit occurred in the municipality of Edessa, in Central Macedonia, from 2001 and 2010.
Five die in traffic collision in Edessa
Police in the northern city of Edessa are investigating a traffic crash in which five people lost their lives.
The accident occurred at approximately 5.50 p.m. when a car carrying five people collided head-on with a truck.
Firefighters rushed to the scene to remove the passengers from the car.

Police find four children, three adults hidden in truck in northern Greece
Police in northern Greece say they found seven migrants — four of them children — hidden in a furniture truck whose driver allegedly had been paid to take them from Turkey to Germany.
The police force in Thessaloniki said the people on the truck were from Syria and Iraq, and the driver allegedly received 1,500 euros ($1,700) for each of the seven passengers.
Pella man, 67, to stand trial for abusing daughter, 44
A prosecutor in the northern town of Edessa has ordered a 67-year-old man to stand trial on charges of sexually abusing his mentally challenged 44-year-old daughter.
The suspect was arrested on Monday on an arrest warrant that was issued after a complaint was filed by his wife, the mother of the victim.

Frost and snow cause problems around Greece
