Trial of defendant who stabbed Elefsina mayor postponed
The trial of the 35-year-old man who stabbed Elefsina Mayor Giorgos Tsoukalas in the thigh earlier this week has been postponed until September 8. The decision was taken by the court on Wednesday so that Tsoukalas, who remains in hospital after undergoing surgery on Monday, can attend as a witness.
Knife attack on mayor not job related, initial police reports suggest
Elefsina Mayor Giorgos Tsoukalas had to undergo surgery Monday after being stabbed in the thigh by a 35-year-old former local authority employee, although investigators do not believe the attack was work-related.
Police arrest 35-year-old over Elefsina knife attack
Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who is alleged to have stabbed the mayor of Elefsina, Giorgos Tsoukalas, earlier on Monday.
Reports said the suspect attacked the victim with a knife inside the town hall building, west of Athens, around 12 p.m. on Monday.

The European Commission is seeking to slap Greece with a fine of more than 16 million euros for failure to comply with waste-water treatment regulations at the Thriasio Plain in western Attica. Prosecutor orders probe into fire at recycling plant
An Athens prosecutor on Tuesday ordered an emergency probe into the causes of a fire at a recycling plant in Aspropyrgos, southwest of Athens, which covered the Greek capital and the port city of Piraeus in noxious fumes from melting plastic and other packaging material for the fourth day on Tuesday.
