Local tourists flock Aegean coasts as curfews end
With Turkey lifting nationwide curfews and lockdowns as of July 1, local tourists have been flocking to some of the well-known tourism hubs in the Aegean region, giving a sigh of relief to the badly hit tourism industry that closed down for one and a half years during the pandemic.

1,800-year-old statue found in ancient Metropolis
An 1,800-year-old statue of a woman was unearthed in İzmir, Turkish officials announced on June 12.
In a Twitter post, the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry's Department of Excavations said the statue was found in the ancient city of Metropolis located in İzmir's Torbalı district.

İzmir seeks World Heritage status for four zones
The Aegean province of İzmir, Turkey's third largest by population, is seeking World Heritage status for four zones to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List: The Historical Port City, Birgi village, Gediz Delta and the Foça, Çandarlı and Çeşme castles.

Ancient city of Ephesus limits visitor numbers
Turkey's iconic ancient city of Ephesus in the picturesque Aegean region has decided to limit the number of daily visitors due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
A total of 650 people will be allowed to visit the historic site at a time, said Cengiz Topal, director of the Ephesus Museum.
Normally around 10,000 people visit the site daily, he told Anadolu Agency.
