London/Heathrow remained the EU's busiest passenger airport in 2018, with 80 million passengers handled, slightly up (+3%) compared with 2017. Paris/Charles de Gaulle (72 million, +4%), Amsterdam/Schiphol (71 million, +4%), Frankfurt/Main (69 million, +8%) and Madrid/Barajas (56 milion, +9%) completed the top 5 of the busiest airports in the EU.

An older A340-300 en-route to Tehran has had to turn back over Sofia, Bulgaria after one of its four engines shut down, reports Simple Flying. 

A Lufthansa flight on it's way to Iran has had to turn back to Germany after one of its engines disabled halfway to its destination.

In 2017, 1.043 billion passengers traveled by air in the European Union (EU), up by 7% compared with 2016 and by 39% compared with 2009. Over this period, air passenger transport has steadily risen in the EU.
