The Belgian city of Ghent is hosting a festival dedicated to ancient Greek drama, presenting the entire canon of 32 surviving plays in the streets of the city, free of charge, from May 1 to June 23.

Thessaloniki mayor Yiannis Boutaris, a late political bloomer best described as a “maverick”, has been voted as the eighth best mayor worldwide by the City Mayors Foundation.
In fact, the outspoken northern metropolis’ “first citizen” won the distinction in a public vote out of 26 candidates.
The “top three” were the mayors of Calgary, Ghent and Surabaya.

The mayor of the western Turkish province of ?zmir, Aziz Kocao?lu, has been named among the ?top 10 mayors in the world? for 2014, in a ranking organized by an international think tank working on urban affairs, the City Mayors Foundation.
Kocao?lu came 10th in the Top 10 Mayors of the World 2014, organized by the City Mayors Foundation?s World Mayor Project since 2004.
'Three surrender' in Belgium armed siege
Three suspects in an armed hostage-taking incident in the Belgian city of Ghent surrendered to police Monday, reports said, as officials said there were no indications of terrorism.
Police had earlier surrounded an apartment after four armed men took a captive in a working-class area of the northwestern city.

Young and talented photographer Cem Ersavcı dies in traffic accident
The young and talented Turkish photographer, Cem Ersavcı, passed away after being hit by a car while riding his bike in the western province of Bursa on Aug. 24. Ersavcı was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital by a medical helicopter after the crash, but lost his life in the early hours of Aug. 25.
