India's economy will become carbon neutral by the year 2070, the country's prime minister announced on Nov. 1 at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.

"By 2070, India will achieve the target of net-zero emissions," Narendra Modi told more than 120 leaders at the critical talks.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison attacked the credibility of French President Emmanuel Macron as a newspaper quoted a text message that suggested France anticipated "bad news" about a now-scuttled submarine deal.

More than 100 countries pledged on Nov. 2 to end deforestation in the coming decade, a promise that experts say would be critical to limiting climate change but one that has been made and broken before.

The inaugural UN climate conference in Glasgow is the last chance to limit global warming to less than one and a half degrees Celsius. This was stated in his opening speech by the chairman of the conference Alok Sharma. COP26 began with a minute of silence in memory of the Covid-19 victims.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Oct. 31 said Australia's prime minister outright lied to him over a cancelled submarine deal, deepening an already fraught diplomatic crisis.

"I don't think. I know," Macron said when asked by Australian media if Scott Morrison was untruthful in their private dealings.

Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida declared victory on Nov. 1 after leading his ruling coalition to a strong majority in national elections.
