Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan in a phone call, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Aug. 28.

Çavuşoğlu also had a separate phone call with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

Ljubljana/Kabul – The Defence Ministry is striving to get out of Afghanistan the remaining Afghan national of the two who had assisted the Slovenian troops and his family. After a number of attempts to get them safely to Kabul airport, this evacuation route is no longer possible in light of the escalating security situation, but other options are being considered.

Turkish personnel and all Turkish citizens who wish to leave the country have been evacuated from Afghanistan's capital Kabul in a span of less than 48 hours, Turkey's national defense minister announced on Aug. 28.

Acting swiftly on President Joe Biden's promise to retaliate for the deadly suicide bombing at Kabul airport, the US military said it used a drone strike to kill a member of the Islamic State group's Afghanistan affiliate Saturday.

The U.S. conducted a drone strike against an Islamic State target in Afghanistan on Aug. 28, as the airlift of those desperate to flee moved into its fraught final stages with fresh terror attack warnings and encroaching Taliban forces primed to take over Kabul airport.

The Turkish national defense minister on Aug. 27 conveyed his condolences to his U.S. counterpart over the phone following Thursday's deadly blasts outside the Kabul airport that killed at least 170 people, including 13 U.S. soldiers, and wounded dozens of others.

Athens-based Mega channel on Friday aired a second exclusive interview dealing with now Taliban-dominated Afghanistan, with now burgeoning resistance div Crystal Bayat interviewed on the prime-time newscast only hours after deadly blasts erupted at the Kabul airport.

Romania's interinstitutional task force has managed to evacuate five Afghan nationals from Kabul who were admitted to the airport and later evacuated with support from Romania's international partners with whom the task force was in contact, according to the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE).

President Joe Biden on Thursday vowed to make terrorists "pay" for the deadly attacks that killed 13 U.S. service members and wounded many others when ISIS militants set off multiple bombs outside of Kabul's main airport earlier in the day.

A second batch of Turkish troops evacuated from the Afghan capital Kabul landed home in the Turkish capital on Aug. 27.
