As 2023 nears its end, archaeologists working in ancient cities all around Anatolia made significant discoveries throughout the year. According to archaeology magazine Arkeofili editors, the most exciting archaeological discoveries in Türkiye in 2023 are as follows:

'Ephesus of Çukurova' being unearthed
The ruins of the ancient city of Kastabala, which dates back to the 5th century B.C. in the southern province of Osmaniye, are being unearthed through archaeological excavations. Many of its structures have survived to the present day and are called "The Ephesus of Çukurova."

Findings push back history of ancient city of Kastabala
The ancient city of Kastabala in the southern province of Osmaniye's Cevdetiye district is 1,500 years older than previously thought, archaeologists working at the excavations have found, making the history of the site date back 3,500 years.
Illegal excavations damage ancient city
Historical artifacts have been damaged during illegal excavations in the ancient city of Kastabala, known as the Ephesus of the southern Çukurova region.
In Kastabala Hierapolis, which is located 12 kilometers away from the Osmaniye city center, someone taking photographs in the area saw May 13 that many historical artifacts were damaged.
