A man died on Friday as several forest fires fanned by gale-force winds battered Greece's southern tip and forced evacuations, the fire brigade said.

The man, 55, was injured in a blaze in the region of Ilia on the Peloponnese peninsula and died at a hospital, said a fire service official.

An accommodation facility in the town of Kranidi, in southern Greece, was placed in lockdown for two weeks on Tuesday after three more migrants tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Greek health authorities said Tuesday.

The only people who will be allowed in the hotel are its employees, healthcare professionals and police and military officials.

One hundred and seventy-seven residents from the small town of Kranidi, southern Greece, who were tested for the novel coronavirus came back negative, according to state-run broadcaster ERT on Thursday morning.

The tests wre ordered by health authorities after they discovered a cluster of coronavirus infections at a local facility housing refugees earlier this week.

For the time being it appears that the coronavirus public health crisis in this country is under control but there are always dangers lurking as we saw most recently with the confirmation of 150 asymptomatic cases at a hotel housing migrants in the town of Kranidi in the Peloponnese.

A total of 150 people in an accommodation facility in the town of Kranidi, in southern Greece, have tested positive for the new coronavirus, Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias told jousnalists after visiting the site on Tuesday.

Hardalias said 148 of these are refugees, one is an employee, and one is an aid worker. All patients are asymptomatic, he said.
