Two men die in floodwaters on Lemnos island; Storm warning issued for Attica
A 57-year-old farmer died Saturday after being swept away by floodwaters in the Fteri area of Lemnos island. Firefighters recovered his body as severe weather battered the island.
Authorities said the man was using a tractor to free his car from mud when rushing water overtook him.
Two police officers among 9 arrested for drug trafficking
Two police officers were among a group of nine people detained over drug trafficking charges on the Aegean islands of Lemnos and Aghios Efstratios late on Monday.
According to the police case file, the members of the criminal ring allegedly used scheduled ferry or courier services to transport the illegal substances from Athens to Lemnos and Aghios Efstratios.
Aftershock measuring 4.0 hits Northern Aegean
An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude occurred 50 kilometers east of Lemnos, in the area of Saros Bay, in the Northern Aegean Sea early on Wednesday.
According to the Seismological Station of Thessalonikis Aristotle University, the quake was part of aftershock activity following a 6.4 on the Richter scale tremor that shook the area last Saturday.
