The desire is to highlight the importance of forests, wood and green areas for safeguarding biodiversity and providing a healthy environment for people and animals.
The Municipality of Ljubljana said that forests were a key factor in mitigating the effects of climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

UNESCO names Athens World Book Capital for 2018
The city of Athens has been announced from UNESCO as the World Book Capital for 2018. The proposed program includes meetings with writers, translators and illustrators, concerts, thematic exhibitions, poetry readings and workshops for publishing professionals. The aim of the program is to make books accessible to the city’s entire population, including migrants and refugees.

SAZU honours composer Janez Matičič
The composer, who spent most of his creative years in Paris, was labelled a cosmopolitan by SAZU head Tadej Bajd, who addressed the event.
Using modern techniques and media in his composing, Matičič has been faithful to traditional genres. He has devoted most of his work to piano.

Outdoor library season begins
The first outdoor library will open in Ljubljana's Tivoli Park, one of eight locations in the Slovenian capital and arguably the most popular such venue in the country.
Another popular spot is on Ljubljana Castle, one of the main tourist attractions in the city, where the selection of books is tailored to foreigners, who make up the bulk of the castle visitors.
