Tired Greeks lose on the road in the Euroleague

Exhausted from playing four games in under 10 days, Panathinaikos and Olympiakos suffered road defeats on Thursday and Friday, in Madrid and Istanbul respectively, for the Euroleague.

Holder Panathinaikos went down 90-86 at Real Madrid, though this loss was very different to that two days earlier at Paris basketball.

The return of rivalry: Panathinaikos vs. Real Madrid in Euroleague action

Panathinaikos (2-1) takes on Real Madrid (1-2) in the fourth round of the Euroleague. The last meeting between the two teams was on May 26, in the Euroleague final, where the Greek team triumphed with a 95-80 victory, making a historic comeback in Berlin. Panathinaikos had eliminated Fenerbahce in the semifinal, while Real Madrid defeated Olympiacos to reach the final.

Ataman on the loss in France: “It’s the first time I’ve seen this basketball in the EuroLeague”

Turkish coach Ergin Ataman of Panathinaikos commented on Paris’s playing style and his players’ complaints about the French defense after the game. Paris celebrated its first-ever EuroLeague victory, while Panathinaikos fell to 2-1 in the standings. Ataman stated in the press conference:
