Compensation platform expected to open next week
The platform where people who incurred damages from this week's Attica wildfire can apply for compensation will open on August 21, according to Deputy Civil Protection Minister Christos Triandopoulos. Inspections in the affected municipalities are ongoing, with 130 having been conducted by Thursday.

Man arrested for arson in Marathonas
Police on Wednesday arrested a man suspected of multiple acts of arson in the municipality of Marathonas, in east Attica, the fire service said in a press release.
The 35-year-old man is accused of setting five fires in land plots in the area of Rizari between July 26 and 31 and for disobedience towards authorities.

The decision concerns buildings for which final demolition rulings have been issued.
4.4-magnitude earthquake rattles Athens
The Greek capital was rattled by a 4.4 magnitude quake at 10.26 p.m. on Monday.
Initial reports said the quake's epicenter was in Marathonas, 29 kilometers northeast of Athens, at a depth of 5 kilometers.
