One more missing person found in flooded western Attica

Firefighters on Thursday found an elderly man who had been reported missing by his daughter in the wake of deadly floods in western Attica the previous day.

The unnamed man was found in his home in the neighborhood of Aghios Georgios in Mandra and is reported to be alive and well. Rescuers earlier on Thursday saved another man who had become trapped in his car.

Number of missing from floods at six, as death toll rises to 16

Six people have been reported missing from Wednesday's floods in western Attica, while the number of confirmed deaths rose to 16 on Thursday morning.

The majority of the casualties were residents the seaside towns of Mandra and Nea Peramos, which suffered serious flooding on Wednesday. A few were motorists who drowned in their cars or were swept into the sea.

Floods Caused by Heavy Rain in Greece Have Killed at Least 10

Floods caused by heavy rain have killed at least 10 people and caused destruction in three towns near the Greek capital, Athens, officials say, quoted by BBC. 

The industrial towns of Mandra, Nea Peramos and Megara, 27km (17 miles) west of Athens, were the most affected.

Many of the dead were elderly people whose bodies were found inside their homes, reports say.
