Bulgaria: Disaster Situation in 3 Municipalities in Smolyan Region due to Torrential Rains
Three municipalities in Smolyan district are in a state of emergency due to cut roads due to rivers overflowing their banks. These are Rudozem, Nedelino and Borino. A partial state of emergency has also been declared for the Devin village of Trigrad.
Heavy snowfall blocks roads, cuts power in southern Bulgaria
Power supply to more than 800 locations in southern Bulgaria has been disrupted as of Sunday evening due to heavy snowfall now in its third day.
Some villages and towns in the regions of Smolyan and Kardzhali as well as the southernmost areas of Pazardzhik region have remained without water supply, too, as water pumps were idled by the lack of electricity.
Prosecuting Authority Seeks Dismissal of Mayor of Bulgaria’s Nedelino
The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has asked the Smolyan District Court to remove from office the Mayor of the Nedelino Municipality, Stoyan Beshirov, and his deputy, Rumyana Karaivanova.
The two have been charged with malfeasance in office.
The motion is to be reviewed by the Smolyan District Court on December 10.
