Snow Claims the Lives of Two More Bulgarians

The abundant snow, which had fallen in the past week, has claimed the lives of two more Bulgarians.

A 47-year-old man, who had disappeared in the snowdrifts in the village of Nenkovo in the municipality of Kardzhali, was found dead.

Another man was similarly found lying dead in the snow near the town of Ardino, private bTV station reports.

Five Bulgarian Municipalities Remain in State of Emergency after Snowstorms

Hundreds of towns in southern Bulgaria remain without electricity supplies and with severe problems with road infrastructure after the prolific snowfalls.

The state of emergency issued in the municipalities of Smolyan, Kardzhali, Haskovo, Pazardzhik and Plovdiv remains in force, the Bulgarian National television reported.

A Bulgarian court of appeal on Tuesday granted a defence request to postpone hearings in the case of 13 Bulgarian Muslim clerics sentenced for preaching radical Islam.

The lawyers of the defendants have asked the Appeals Court in the city of Plovdiv, in southern Bulgaria, to allow new evidence, according to BGNES news outlet.

Director of Pazardzhik Mayor's Office Shot Dead

Tatyana Stoyanova, head of the Pazardzhik Mayor's Office, was shot dead Monday evening in front of her home.

Stoyanova had just parked her car outside her home in Dimitar Grekov Street in Pazardzhik and had headed for the entrance of the block of flats when she was shot in the head, according to reports of Nova TV.

The murderer managed to escape.

Bulgaria Ranks World's 20th In Internet Speed, Accessibility

Bulgaria ranks at the 20-th position in the global Net Index Explorer for broadband internet accessibility and speed.

The survey was presented by Bulgaria's Society for Electronic Communications (SEC).

The leaders in the rankings are Hong Kong, Singapore, Romania, South Korea, Lithuania, Sweden, Switzerland, Macao, the Netherlands and Andorra.

Asarel Investment Gets Metallic Mineral Prospecting Permit for Borimechkovo

Bulgaria's caretaker government has approved the issuance of a metallic mineral prospecting permit at the Borimechkovo terrain.

The permit will be granted to Asarel-Exploration EAD, the investment arm of leading copper ore mining and processing company Asarel-Medet, for a period of three years, according to reports of money.bg.

Minor 2.4-Magnitude Earthquake Reported in Southern Bulgaria

A weak earthquake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale was registered between the southern Bulgarian city of Pazardzhik and the town of Septemvri in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), the jolt occurred at 1.43 am on Sunday.
