Archaeologists Unearth Remarkably Preserved Statue of Hermes in Bulgaria
Archaeologists led by Prof. Dr. Ludmil Vagalinski have unearthed a remarkably well-preserved marble statue in the ancient city of Heraclea Sintika, near Petrich, Bulgaria. The discovery, announced by the municipality of Petrich, was found within the underground sewer known as "Cloaca Maxima".

Petrich Municipality Investigated by OLAF
OLAF, the European Anti-Fraud Office, is investigating the municipality of Petrich for alleged misuse of € 750,000 allocated to repair an already non-existing building. The project is co-financed by a program for cross-border cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece. The money was received to repair the former border police premises and to make the building a museum.

Bulgaria’s Government Allocates BGN 100,000 for Excavations at Ancient City Heraclea Sintica
Bulgaria's government on August 7 allocated BGN 100,000 to the Ministry of Culture for the excavations of the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica near Rupite. The state has already provided BGN 1.5 million for excavation and construction of roads to the site. The ancient city is the most visited tourist site in Southwestern Bulgaria, reports BNT.

A woman who was run over has died on the spot. There is an inspection on site of the accident.
A Mild Earthquake in Petrich Area
An earthquake of magnitude 3 on the Richter scale is registered in the region of the village of Skrut, Municipality of Petrich.
The quake was at 14.32 hrs Bulgarian time, according to the site of the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGGG) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The southwestern town of Petrich marked Bulgaria's national holiday on Thursday with a procession on the occasion of the 138thanniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.
