Bosnia Halts Extradition of Croat Ex-Fighter after Victim Dies

The procedure to extradite former Croatian Defence Council fighter Robert Kovacic from the United States on suspicion that he committed war crimes has been suspended because the investigation has been discontinued due to a lack of evidence after the victim and witness to the crime died, BIRN has learned.

Bosnian Croat Ex-Fighter Faces Extradition after Arrest in US

Robert Kovacic, a former member of the Croatian Defence Council wanted for war crimes, was arrested last month in the United States on a warrant issued by Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is now awaiting an extradition hearing in a US court in July.

Kovacic, now 66, was arrested in Roanoke, Virginia on May 16. He is currently in custody in the US and his extradition is pending.

Suspect in Virginia TV Double Killing Shoots Himself

The suspect in the killing of two television journalists in Virginia, US has shot himself on a higway in Fauquier County, according to state police, international news outlets reported on Wednesday.

WDBJ7, a CBS affiliate where the two journalists worked, identified the attacker as its former news reporter Vester Lee Flanagan. He was employed by WDBJ7 in 2012-2013.

Two Virginia television journalists fatally shot in on-air attack

Two television journalists were shot and killed in Virginia on Aug. 26 morning while conducting a live television interview, the station said. 

The incident occurred at about 6:45 a.m. EDT (1045 GMT)  during a live broadcast in Bedford County, when shots could be heard, sending the reporter and the person she was interviewing  screaming and ducking for cover.
