Efforts to manage the smoldering fires at the old sludge depot near the Plovdiv village of Katunitsa are ongoing, as the area continues to experience a strong, suffocating odor. A mobile laboratory is monitoring the air quality, prompting the closure of a local kindergarten and school after waste from the treatment plant ignited.

A civil aviation plane was the reason for not firing against the storm clouds that brought devastating hail to the town of Sadovo yesterday.

Tonnes of waste were discovered in the riverbed of the Chaya River near the village of Katunitsa, Southern Bulgaria, BNT reported.

Bird flu has been registered in a farm in the village of Bogdanitsa, Sadovo municipality, according to bTV. 

The case was confirmed yesterday. 39,000 laying hens will be culled and accordingly buried to prevent any spread of the disease.

The farm will be disinfected and the owners - compensated.

Four new cases of measles were registered during the past weekend in Plovdiv, Dr Monika Troyancheva from Plovdiv Regional Health Inspection (RHI) told Radio FOCUS - Plovdiv. There are a total of 65 cases registered so far.

"Their number is updated every day, as not all of them are proved for sure," Dr Troyancheva explained.
