Weather Update: Summer Conditions Until Sunday, Significant 8°C Temperature Drop Expected on Monday
Summer conditions will persist until Sunday, with temperatures rising to unseasonably high levels, reaching – and in some areas exceeding – 32°C. For example, Sparta and Thebes recorded 32.6°C yesterday.
Sparta: Fire in the forested area in the Kalyvia Socha region
A wildfire is currently ongoing in a forested area in the region of Kalyvia Socha, in the Municipality of Sparta, Laconia.
On the scene are 31 firefighters, with two ground teams from the 9th Special Disaster Response Unit (EMODE) and six vehicles, while four firefighting airplanes and one helicopter are conducting water drops.

Wildfire breaks out near Sparta
A wildfire broke out outside the city of Sparta on Tuesday.
Some 28 firefighters with 12 vehicles were dispatched to the scene. Additionally, two firefighting airplanes are assisting the firefighting efforts from the air.
According to the fire department, the fire rages outside the northeastern part of the city but without threatening houses.

Bus falls into a roadside ditch in Laconia
A bus, driving from the eastern Peloponnesian city of Sparta to the village of Vamvakou in Laconia, fell into a ditch on Wednesday.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the bus driver lost consciousness and passed out.

Official warns the worst is yet to come
Wildfires are burning large tracts of forest and farmland in Attica and neighboring regions for the third day in a row, while another two major blazes, on the island of Rhodes and near the southern town of Sparta, flared up Wednesday.
Despite the expected arrival of firefighters from the EU and Israel on Thursday, authorities are not optimistic that the blazes will be contained soon.

Aegean Sea island for sale for $54 million
Some part of 459-acre island, known as Kalem Island off the coast of the Aegean province of İzmir's Dikili district, was put up for sale for 400 million Turkish Liras ($54 million).
Located 500 meters from the Turkish mainland and right across the Greek island of Lesbos, Kalem is known as a frequent destination for daily tour boats in the Aegean Sea.
