Hisense Europe makes loss in 2020, profit in last 14 months
Velenje – The Hisense Europe Group generated just under EUR 2 billion in sales in 2020, more than 97% of which came from home appliances. It ended the year with a loss of EUR 12.8 million, of which Gorenje’s loss was EUR 11.5 million. Nevertheless, the group has been generating profit in the last 14 months, Gorenje said in a release on Thursday.
Debate hears coal phase-out date should be set with consensus
Ljubljana – A round table debate on Tuesday heard that, while coal phase-out is inevitable, it should be made sure that power supply is not threatened as Slovenia is making the relevant transition. The participants agreed that the year of closure of the sole operational coal mine in Velenje should be set in consensus of all stakeholders.
Hopes for new investor after Adient shutdown
Slovenj Gradec – The government is hoping to find a new investor for a location in Slovenj Gradec that the US company Adient plans to shut down at the end of the year at a loss of 430 jobs. “I’m optimistic, we have several interested parties for the continuation of production,” Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek said on Tuesday.

Hisense Gorenje hiring additional workers as orders grow
Velenje – The Velenje-based maker of household appliances and TV sets Gorenje, a part of the Chinese group Hisense, is reporting increasing orders for the coming months and is hiring additional workers, mostly at the newly opened TV plant.
Some high school students boycott remote learning to call for reopening
Ljubljana/Velenje – A number of secondary school students boycotted remote learning on Tuesday to express support for a movement that seeks face-to-face teaching at secondary schools. Opinions about this among students are still divided, though, a representative of the relevant organisation said.
