Nick Staikos has been appointed minister for consumer affairs and for local government in Victoria, Australia, following a cabinet reshuffle announced by Premier Jacinta Allan.

Staikos will join fellow Greek Australian Steve Dimopoulos in the cabinet, who retains his suite of portfolios of tourism, sport and major events, environment and outdoor recreation.

Following a rise in antisemitic incidents across Australia and Victoria and a terrorist bombing of a synagogue, the premier of Victoria has appointed a Greek Australian to head an advisory group to spearhead efforts to combat extremism, strengthen social cohesion and foster unity.
