Italy's ambitions toward Albanian-inhabited territories started in the late-19th century when the region belonged to the Ottoman Empire. They culminated with the occupation of Albania on April 7, 1939. Eighty years have passed since the end of Italy's imperialist dreams in the Balkans, but their legacy still haunts Italian-Albanian relations.

New 4.7 magnitude earthquakes on the Richter scale were reported tonight in Tirana and Durrës, Albanian media reported.

The earthquakes' epicentre was near the town of Vlorë, Albania's second largest port. The earthquakes were registered shortly after 5pm local time.

Albanian authorities have arrested a second suspect in the murder in 2017 of Athens lawyer Michalis Zafeiropoulos.

Eno Mata, known as the Winged Maradona, was arrested following a shootout between the villages of Vlore and Fieri in southern Albania.

Mata had been with an accomplice who was fatally injured.

2 tons of cannabis seized in Albania

VLORE -- The Albanian police on Thursday confiscated two tons of cannabis and arrested two suspects.

The drugs were seized in the port town of Vlore, and were meant to be sold in Italy.

According to the police, the shipment was hidden inside a vehicle that was to be transported to Italy in a dinghy.
