Turkish energy company Aksa Enerji has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the Shymkent Governorship in Kazakhstan to establish a natural gas combined cycle power plant.

The installed capacity of the gas power plant will be 500MW, Aksa said in a filing with Borsa İstanbul.

Aksa Enerji has opened a 270-MW power plant that will produce electricity using local coal resources for $390 million in the Göynük district of the Black Sea province of Bolu. 

Turkey's first power plant investment with the coal royalty will produce 2 billion kilowatt/hour (kWh) energy every year, the company stated in a press release on Aug. 14.

Turkey's Aksa Enerji has signed a five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Ghana to install a 370MW power plant, electricity generation and the guaranteed sale of the energy, it said Aug. 10.
