Tram line section in southern Athens returns to service on July 1

Tram service in the section between Asklipio Voulas and Zefyros in southern Athens will resume on July 1 after four months, the Athens Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY) said on Friday.  

The service had been suspended since March 10 due to construction work at the former airport at Elliniko to bring part of coastal Poseidonos Avenue underground.

Metro riders to get 5G services

The Athens Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY) has launched a pilot project to cover the stations and tunnels of the metro lines with up to 5G mobile signals.

The first phase of the project is set to last until March of this year and aims to find the best technical solution, which will then be applied to the entire network.

Four-hour work stoppage called on tram on Wednesday

The Attica Tram Electricians Association on Tuesday announced a four-hour work stoppage from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday "since it does not see any substantial solution to the problems."

In a statement, the association bemoaned a series of shortcomings, including the operation of the tram telematics system, which has remained "problematic" for the last 22 months.

Trains, suburban railway to operate normally on Tuesday

Trains and the suburban railway will not participate in a 24-hour strike of employees in public transport on Tuesday, called in protest at the government's social security bill.

The planned full-day strike in the tram, metro, ISAP railway, trolley or bus service is expected to cause major traffic in Athens.

Public transport to grind to a halt Tuesday

There will be no tram, metro, ISAP railway, trolley or bus service Tuesday due to the participation of workers in a 24-hour strike in protest at the government's social security bill.
In a statement on Saturday, the Athens Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY) denounced the new legislation, saying the government has not kept its promise to increase pensions.
