Better Regulation

First Vice-President of the European Commission (EC) and European Commissioner for Better Regulation, Inter-institutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights Frans Timmermans told a news conference on Thursday that Romania is ready to join the Schengen area.

Amendments to Romania's justice legislation were the main topic discussed at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace by President Klaus Iohannis and First Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Better Regulation, Interinstitutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights Frans Timmermans.

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea was surprised that he should give any explanations regarding the removal from office of the chief prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) at a meeting with First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans on Thursday, arguing that the Romanian Parliament has no reason to give explanations.
