Istanbul's Akaretler, one of the historical and iconic neighborhoods of the Turkish metropolis, is awaiting both locals and tourists with many art events that are worth visiting this weekend, bringing together the best examples of contemporary art, such as Hayal-i Alem, 212 Photography Istanbul Festival, and Vision Art Platform.

Sakıp Sabancı Museum (SSM) will host open-air activities throughout the summer.

The first of the events, the Summer in the Garden Festival, organized by Hakan Erdoğan Productions, will start today with the theme "Invitation to Joy" and continue until Sept. 10.

A Grammy-winner and a favourite of legendary conductor Zubin Mehta, the world-renowned violinist Midori is set to give a concert with the Sofia Philharmonic on 13 June. Under the baton of Maestro Nayden Todorov, she will perform Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1.

Borusan Classic begins February with a live classical music concert broadcast, hosting violinist Camille Thomas.

The concert will be presented at Borusan Classic on Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. under the direction of Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra honorary conductor Gürer Aykal.

Borusan Sanat enters the New Year with its new online platform, borusansanat.tv.

In addition to concerts performed by Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra and Borusan Quartet, the new recordings of the concerts at Borusan Music House will be waiting for music lovers at borusansanat.tv.

The first concert will be shown in the online platform live on Jan 3, 2021 at 11.30 am.

As April 15, World Art Day, which was celebrated at home as part of global epidemic measures this year, Borusan Contemporary opened its annual "Bill Viola: Impermanent" exhibition on Google Arts & Culture platform.

Borusan Contemporary has opened the new artistic season by hosting the first Istanbul exhibition of the pioneering U.S. video artist Bill Viola.

Turkey has a passionate audience despite its short history of classical music when compared with that of Europe, Sascha Goetzel, the artistic director and principal conductor of Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO), has said.

The Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry has approved funding for the international promotion campaign of Istanbul's new art event, Istanbul Art Week.

The international promotion campaign includes all manners of local art events that will take place during Istanbul Art Week between Sept. 12 and 17.  

Awarded every year since 2012 by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) to promising young Turkish classical musicians, the Aydın Gün Encouragement Award has been granted to 21-year-old marimbist Elman Mecid on its fifth year.
